Granulócitos eosinófilos
Os granulócitos de eosinófilos, geralmente chamados de eosinófilos ou eosinófilos, são glóbulos brancos e um dos componentes do sistema imunológico responsável pelo combate de parasitas multicelulares e certas infecções em vertebrados. Junto com os mastócitos, eles também controlam os mecanismos associados à alergia e à asma. São os granulócitos que se desenvolvem durante a hematopoiese na medula óssea antes de migrar para o sangue. Essas células são eosinofílicas ou "ácidas", como é demonstrado por sua afinidade com os corantes de alcatrão de carvão: Normalmente transparente, é essa afinidade que faz com que pareçam vermelho de tijolos após a coloração com eosina, um corante vermelho, usando o método de Romanowsky. A coloração é concentrada em pequenos grânulos dentro do citoplasma celular, que contêm muitos mediadores químicos, como histaminas e proteínas, tais como eosinófilos peroxidase, ribonuclease, desoxirribonucleases, lipase, plasminogênio e principais proteínas básicas. Esses mediadores são liberados por um processo chamado degranulação após a ativação dos eosinófilos e são tóxicos tanto para os parasitas quanto para os tecidos do hospedeiro. Em indivíduos normais, os eosinófilos constituem cerca de 1-6% dos glóbulos brancos e têm cerca de 12-17 micrómetros de tamanho.
