Zona Photic
A zona fótica, zona eufótica ou zona solar é a profundidade da água em um lago ou oceano exposto à luz solar suficiente para que a fotossíntese ocorra. Ele se estende da superfície para baixo até uma profundidade onde a intensidade da luz cai para um por cento daquela na superfície, chamada de profundidade eufótica. Consequentemente, a sua espessura depende da extensão da atenuação da luz na coluna de água. As profundidades eufóticas típicas variam de apenas alguns centímetros em lagos eutróficos altamente turbios, a cerca de 200 metros no oceano aberto. Também varia com as mudanças sazonais de turbidez. Uma vez que a zona fótica é onde quase toda a produtividade primária ocorre, a profundidade da zona fótica é geralmente proporcional ao nível de produtividade primária que ocorre naquela área do oceano. Cerca de 90% de toda a vida marinha vive na zona fótica. Uma pequena quantidade de produção primária é gerada profundamente na zona abissal em torno das aberturas hidrotermais que existem ao longo de alguns sulcos oceânicos. A zona que se estende desde a base da zona eufótica até cerca de 200 metros às vezes é chamada de zona disófoba.
