Eusocialidade
A eusocialidade, o mais alto nível de organização da socialidade animal, é definida pelas seguintes características: cuidados de incubação cooperativos, gerações sobrepostas em uma colônia de adultos e uma divisão do trabalho em grupos reprodutivos e não reprodutivos. A divisão do trabalho cria grupos comportamentais especializados dentro de uma sociedade animal que às vezes são chamados de castas. A eusocialidade é distinguida de todos os outros sistemas sociais porque indivíduos de pelo menos uma casta geralmente perdem a capacidade de realizar pelo menos um comportamento característico de indivíduos em outra casta. A eusocialidade é principalmente observada e estudada em Hymenoptera e Isoptera. Por exemplo, uma colônia tem diferenças de castas; rainhas e machos reprodutivos assumem os papéis como únicos reprodutores, enquanto os soldados e os trabalhadores trabalham juntos para criar uma situação de vida favorável para a ninhada. Além de Hymenoptera e Isoptera, existem dois vertebrados eusociais conhecidos da ordem Rodentia, que inclui o rato mole nu e o rato mole Damaraland. A maioria dos indivíduos cuida cooperativamente da ninhada de uma única fêmea reprodutora para a qual eles estão provavelmente relacionados.
