Existencialismo
O existencialismo é um termo aplicado ao trabalho de certos filósofos do final do século XIX e XX que, apesar das profundas diferenças doutrinais, compartilhavam a crença de que o pensamento filosófico começa com o sujeito humano - não apenas o sujeito pensante, mas a atuação, o sentimento, a vida indivíduo humano. No existencialismo, o ponto de partida do indivíduo é caracterizado pelo que chamou de "atitude existencial", ou um sentimento de desorientação e confusão diante de um mundo aparentemente sem sentido ou absurdo. Muitos existencialistas também consideraram as filosofias tradicionais sistemáticas ou acadêmicas, tanto no estilo quanto no conteúdo, como muito abstratas e distantes da experiência humana concreta. Søren Kierkegaard é geralmente considerado como o primeiro filósofo existencialista, embora não tenha usado o termo existencialismo. Ele propôs que cada indivíduo - não sociedade ou religião - seja o único responsável por dar sentido à vida e viver com paixão e sinceridade. O existencialismo tornou-se popular nos anos que se seguiram à Segunda Guerra Mundial e influenciou fortemente muitas disciplinas além da filosofia, incluindo a teologia, o drama, a arte, a literatura e a psicologia.
