Extrusão
Extrusão é um processo usado para criar objetos de um perfil de seção transversal fixo. Um material é empurrado ou desenhado através de um dado da seção transversal desejada. As duas principais vantagens deste processo em relação a outros processos de fabricação são a capacidade de criar secções transversais muito complexas e de materiais de trabalho que são frágeis, porque o material apenas encontra tensões de compressão e cisalhamento. Também forma peças acabadas com excelente acabamento superficial. A extrusão pode ser contínua ou semi-contínua. O processo de extrusão pode ser feito com o material quente ou frio. Os materiais comumente extrudados incluem metais, polímeros, cerâmicas, concreto, massa e produtos alimentares. Os produtos de extrusão são geralmente chamados de "extrudidos". As cavidades ocas dentro do material extrudido não podem ser produzidas usando uma matriz simples de extrusão plana, porque não haveria nenhuma maneira de suportar a barreira central da matriz. Em vez disso, o dado assume a forma de um bloco com profundidade, começando primeiro com um perfil de forma que suporte a seção central. O formato da matriz, então, muda internamente ao longo do seu comprimento até a forma final, com as peças centrais suspensas apoiadas na parte de trás do dado.
