O vidro flutuante é uma folha de vidro feita por vidro fundido flutuante sobre um leito de metal fundido, tipicamente lata, embora o uso de chumbo e várias ligas de baixo ponto de fusão tenham sido utilizados no passado. Este método fornece a espessura uniforme da folha e superfícies muito planas. As janelas modernas são feitas de vidro flutuante. A maioria dos vidros flutuantes é vidro soda-lima, mas quantidades relativamente pequenas de borosilicato especial e vidro de exibição de tela plana também são produzidas usando o processo de vidro flutuante. O processo de vidro flutuante também é conhecido como o processo de Pilkington, com o nome do fabricante britânico de vidro Pilkington, que foi pioneiro na técnica na década de 1950.
