Gaivota glaucosa
A gaivota glaucosa é uma gaivota grande que se reproduz nas regiões árticas do hemisfério norte e nas costas atlânticas da Europa. É migratória, invernando nos oceanos do Atlântico Norte e do Pacífico Norte, tanto ao sul quanto as ilhas britânicas e estados mais a norte dos EUA, também nos Grandes Lagos. Algumas aves às vezes chegam ao sul dos EUA e ao norte do México. Esta espécie gera colonial ou individualmente nas costas e penhascos, fazendo um ninho alinhado no chão ou no penhasco. Normalmente, são colocados 2-4 ovos castanhos claros com manchas de chocolate escuro. Em vôo com gaivotas de grande espinha dorsa, Ottawa, Ontário Esta é uma gaivota grande e poderosa, muito pálida em todas as plumagens, sem preto em nenhuma das asas ou na cauda. O termo glaucous descreve sua coloração. Os adultos são cinza pálido acima, com uma contagem amarelada espessa. As imaturas são muito pálidas, com uma conta rosa e preta. Esta espécie é consideravelmente maior, mais volumosa e mais espessa do que a Gaivota da Islândia similar, e às vezes pode igualar o tamanho da Grande Gaivota de fundo preto, a maior espécie de gaivota. Eles podem pesar entre 960 e 2.700 g, com média de 1,55 kg em machos e 1,35 kg em fêmeas.
