A política do bom vizinho foi a política externa da administração do presidente dos Estados Unidos, Franklin Roosevelt, para os países da América Latina. Enquanto sua regra entrou em vigor durante a presidência de Franklin Roosevelt, o político de Henry Henry Clay, do século XIX, preparou o caminho para isso e cunhou o termo "Bom vizinho". O princípio principal da política era o de não intervenção e não interferência nos assuntos domésticos da América Latina. Também reforçou a ideia de que os Estados Unidos seriam "um bom vizinho" e se envolveriam em trocas recíprocas com os países latino-americanos. No geral, a administração Roosevelt esperava que essa nova política criasse novas oportunidades econômicas sob a forma de acordos comerciais recíprocos e reafirmara a influência dos Estados Unidos na América Latina; no entanto, muitos governos latino-americanos não estavam convencidos.
