Harley Granville-Barker
Harley Granville-Barker (nascida Harley Granville Barker, nome do estágio, Granville Barker, apelido com hifenha adotado mais tarde, 25 de novembro de 1877 em Londres - 31 de agosto de 1946 em Paris) foi um ator-diretor, diretor, produtor, crítico e dramaturgo inglês. Barker fez sua estréia no palco lá aos 14 anos. Seu trabalho de atuação levou a um crescente descontentamento com os padrões baixos do teatro comercial. Em 1899, ele desempenhou o papel principal em Richard II sob William Poel, fundador da Elizabethan Stage Society. Em 1900, ele se tornou um membro importante da Stage Society e isso levou a contatos com George Bernard Shaw, William Archer, Elizabeth Robins e William Poel, entre outros. Seu primeiro jogo, The Marrying of Ann Leete, foi produzido pela Stage Society em 1900. Após o sucesso com a Stage Society, Barker voltou suas atenções para sua própria companhia de teatro e com J.E. Vedrenne contratou o Royal Court Theatre em Londres. Lá conseguiu três estações de teatro de repertório. Entre muitas das obras que ele produziu foram peças de Shaw, Henrik Ibsen, Maurice Maeterlinck e novas traduções da Euripide. Essas peças foram produzidas com sucesso no repertório.
