Araucaria cunninghamii
Araucaria cunninghamii é uma espécie de Araucária conhecida como pinheiro. Outros nomes menos utilizados incluem pinheiros coloniais e pinheiros de Queensland. O nome científico homenageia o botânico e explorador Allan Cunningham, que recolheu os primeiros espécimes na década de 1820. A espécie é encontrada nas florestas tropicais secas de Nova Gales do Sul e Queensland e na Nova Guiné. As árvores podem viver até 450 anos e crescer até a altura de 60 metros. A casca é áspera, se divide naturalmente e casca facilmente. As folhas em árvores jovens são em forma de espinha, de 1-2 cm de comprimento, com cerca de 2 mm de espessura na base, e em escala, incorridas, 1-2 cm de comprimento e 4 mm de largura em árvores maduras. Os cones são ovoides, 8-10 cm de comprimento e 6-8 cm de diâmetro, e leva cerca de 18 meses para amadurecer. Eles se desintegram na maturidade para liberar as sementes comestíveis semelhantes a frutos secos. Existem duas variedades: ▪ Araucaria cunninghamii var. cunninghamii - Austrália, do nordeste de Nova Gales do Sul até o leste do centro de Queensland, a uma altitude de 0 a 1.000 m. ▪ Araucaria cunninghamii var.
