Dispepsia
A dispepsia, também conhecida como indigestão, é uma condição de digestão prejudicada. É uma condição médica caracterizada por dor crônica ou recorrente na parte superior do abdômen, plenitude abdominal superior e sensação cheia mais cedo do que o esperado ao comer. Pode ser acompanhada de inchaço, eructos, náuseas ou azia. A dispepsia é um problema comum e é freqüentemente causada por refluxo gastroesofágico ou gastrite. Em pequena minoria, pode ser o primeiro sintoma da úlcera péptica e ocasionalmente câncer. Assim, a dispepsia inexplicada do recém-iniciado em pessoas com mais de 55 anos ou a presença de outros sintomas alarmantes pode exigir novas investigações. A dispepsia funcional é a dispepsia "sem evidência de uma doença orgânica que seja susceptível de explicar os sintomas". A dispepsia funcional é estimada em cerca de 15% da população geral nos países ocidentais.
