Na economia, a elasticidade é a medida de como uma variável econômica é responsiva a uma mudança em outra. Uma variável elástica é aquela que responde mais do que proporcionalmente às mudanças em outras variáveis. Em contraste, uma variável inelástica é aquela que muda menos do que proporcionalmente em resposta a mudanças em outras variáveis. A elasticidade pode ser quantificada como a proporção da variação percentual em uma variável para a variação percentual em outra variável, quando a última variável tem uma influência causal sobre a primeira. Uma definição mais precisa é dada em termos de cálculo diferencial. É uma ferramenta para medir a capacidade de resposta de uma variável a mudanças em outra, variável causal. A elasticidade tem a vantagem de ser uma relação sem unidade, independente do tipo de quantidades que variam.
