Isospin
Na física de partículas, isospin é um número quântico relacionado à forte interação. As partículas que são afetadas igualmente pela força forte, mas têm taxas diferentes, podem ser tratadas como estados diferentes da mesma partícula com valores de isospin relacionados ao número de estados de carga. Embora não tenha unidades de momento angular e não seja um tipo de rotação, é formalmente tratado como um momento angular mecânico quântico. Por exemplo, um par de prótons e neutrões pode estar em um estado de isospina total 1 ou 0. É uma quantidade adimensional e o nome deriva do fato de que as estruturas matemáticas utilizadas para descrevê-lo são muito semelhantes às usadas para descrever o intrínseco forma de momento angular. Este termo foi derivado da rotação isotópica que é confusa e os físicos nucleares preferem o giro isobárico, que é mais preciso no sentido.
