A Junco / dʒʌŋkoʊ /, gênero Junco, é um pequeno pássaro norte-americano. A sistemática Junco ainda é confusa após décadas de pesquisa, com vários autores aceitando entre três e doze espécies. Apesar de ter um nome que parece derivar do termo espanhol para o gênero planta Juncus, essas aves raramente são encontradas entre as plantas apressadas, pois estas preferem terra úmida, enquanto juncos gostam de solo seco. O seu habitat de reprodução são as áreas de coníferas ou florestas misturadas em toda a América do Norte, que vão desde taiga subarctica até florestas montanhosas de alta altitude no México e América Central ao sul até o Panamá. As aves do Norte geralmente migram mais para o sul; As populações do sul são residentes permanentes ou migrantes altitudinais, movendo-se apenas uma curta distância para evitar o clima severo de inverno nas montanhas. Estas aves se alimentam no chão. No inverno, muitas vezes se alimentam em bandos. Eles comem principalmente insetos e sementes.
