Um espaço foliar é um espaço no tronco de uma planta através da qual a folha cresce. A folha está conectada ao tronco pelo rastro da folha, que cresce através do espaço foliar. O espaço foliar é uma ruptura no tecido vascular de um caule acima do ponto de fixação de um traço de folha. Existe na região nodal do caule como uma "lacuna na continuidade do cilindro vascular primário acima do nível onde um traço de folha diverge em direção a uma folha. Esse espaço é preenchido com tecido do parênquima".
