Hematology/oncology Secrets
What is a leukemoid reaction? Elevation of the WBC count (50,000 cells/mm3)
constitutes a leukemoid reaction. This increase is generally characterized by
increased numbers of both mature neutrophils and band forms, although
immature ...

Clinical Laboratory Medicine
In cases in which the neutrophilia exceeds 50.0 X 10'VL, the term leukemoid
reaction has been used. The obvious differential problem that arises in cases of
leukemoid reaction is differentiation from chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML).

Manual of Clinical Hematology
"Leukemoid" Reactions Very high white cell counts suggesting leukemia have
been called leukemoid reactions (Table 5). Leukemoid reactions are associated
with mature neutrophils consisting predominantly of PMN leukocytes with some ...
Leukemoid Reaction A leukemoid reaction is a marked elevation of the white cell
count resembling leukemia but due to a benign condition. The lower WBC limit
for a leukemoid reaction is >50,000 cells/ u,L (>30,000 cells/ u.L in some series).
Previous FBCs can be an invaluable guide. A similar picture (even vaguely
similar) present for a significant time before the current episode should
strengthen the possibility of a myeloproliferative condition as opposed to a
leukemoid reaction.
