Uma bomba lógica é um pedaço de código inserido intencionalmente em um sistema de software que irá definir uma função mal-intencionada quando as condições especificadas forem atendidas. Por exemplo, um programador pode ocultar um pedaço de código que começa a excluir arquivos, caso eles sejam encerrados da empresa. O software que é inerentemente malicioso, como vírus e worms, geralmente contém bombas lógicas que executam uma determinada carga útil em um tempo pré-definido ou quando alguma outra condição é atendida. Esta técnica pode ser usada por um vírus ou verme para ganhar impulso e se espalhar antes de ser notado. Alguns vírus atacam seus sistemas host em datas específicas, como a sexta-feira, dia 13 ou Fool's April. Os trojans que ativam em certas datas geralmente são chamados de "bombas de tempo". Para ser considerada uma bomba lógica, a carga útil deve ser indesejada e desconhecida para o usuário do software.
