Pinus palustris, comumente conhecido como o pinheiro de Longleaf, é um nativo do pinho no sudeste dos Estados Unidos, encontrado ao longo da planície costeira do leste do Texas até o sudeste da Virgínia, estendendo-se para o norte e centro da Flórida. Alcança uma altura de 30-35 m e um diâmetro de 0,7 m. No passado, eles aumentaram para 47 m com um diâmetro de 1,2 m. A casca é grossa, marrom avermelhada e escamosa. As folhas são verdes escuras e agulhas, e ocorrem em feixes de três. Muitas vezes são torcidos e 20-45 cm de comprimento. É um dos dois pinheiros do sudeste da U.S. com agulhas longas, o outro é cortado em pinho. A polinização ocorre no início da primavera seguinte, com os cones machos de 3-8 cm de comprimento.
