Purificador Middlings
Um purificador middlings é um dispositivo usado na produção de farinha para remover as cascas das sementes de trigo. Foi desenvolvido em Minnesota por Edmund LaCroix, um inventor francês contratado por Cadwallader C. Washburn e George Christian do Moinho Washburn "A". Foi desenvolvido para complementar a técnica emergente do rolo de rolo do final do século 19, que usava rolos de metal ondulado em vez de grindstones abrasivos para moer trigo em farinha. O purificador middlings foi usado neste processo para separar o farelo da parte utilizável da farinha. A máquina desenvolvida por LaCroix passou os middlings parcialmente moídos sobre uma tela, e uma corrente de ar explodiu as partículas de farelo. Este processo foi usado porque o trigo de inverno, semeado no outono e colhido no início do verão não era viável para crescer em Minnesota. O trigo da primavera foi semeado na primavera e colhido no final do verão.
