Monetarismo
O monetarismo é uma escola de pensamento econômico que enfatiza o papel dos governos no controle da quantidade de dinheiro em circulação. É a visão dentro da economia monetária que a variação na oferta monetária tem influências importantes sobre a produção nacional no curto prazo e o nível de preços em períodos mais longos; os objetivos da política monetária são melhor atendidos, visando a taxa de crescimento da oferta monetária. O monetarismo hoje está principalmente associado ao trabalho de Milton Friedman, que estava entre a geração de economistas para aceitar a economia keynesiana e depois criticar a teoria dos glúten de Keynes usando a política fiscal. Friedman e Anna Schwartz escreveram um livro influente, A Monetary History of the States, 1867-1960, e argumentaram que "a inflação é sempre e em todos os lugares um fenômeno monetário".
