Morfogênese
A morfogênese é o processo biológico que faz com que um organismo desenvolva sua forma. É um dos três aspectos fundamentais da biologia do desenvolvimento, juntamente com o controle do crescimento celular e da diferenciação celular. O processo controla a distribuição espacial organizada das células durante o desenvolvimento embrionário de um organismo. A morfogênese pode ocorrer também em um organismo maduro, em cultura celular ou dentro de massas de células tumorais. A morfogênese também descreve o desenvolvimento de formas de vida unicelulares que não têm um estágio embrionário em seu ciclo de vida ou descreve a evolução de uma estrutura corporal dentro de um grupo taxonômico. As respostas morfogenéticas podem ser induzidas em organismos por hormônios, por produtos químicos ambientais que vão desde substâncias produzidas por outros organismos até produtos químicos tóxicos ou radionuclídeos liberados como poluentes e outras plantas, ou por estresses mecânicos induzidos por padrões espaciais das células.
