Nanda Devi
Nanda Devi é a segunda montanha mais alta da Índia e a mais alta dentro do país; devido a essa geografia, foi considerada a montanha mais conhecida do mundo até os cálculos sobre Dhaulagiri pelos topógrafos ocidentais em 1808. Foi também a montanha mais alta da Índia antes de Sikkim se juntar à União Indiana. É parte do Kumaon Himalayas, e está localizado no estado de Uttarakhand, entre o vale Rishiganga a oeste eo vale Goriganga a leste. Seu nome significa Deusa de Deus. O pico é considerado como o padroeiro da deusa do Uttarakh e do Himalaya. Reconhecendo seu significado religioso e para a proteção do seu frágil ecossistema, o pico, bem como o círculo das altas montanhas ao redor - o santuário de Nanda Devi - foram fechados tanto para os habitantes locais como para os alpinistas em 1983. O Parque Nacional Nanda Devi ao redor foi declarado Património Mundial da UNESCO em 1988.
