A Era Neolítica, ou Período, de νέος e λίθος, ou New Stone age, foi um período no desenvolvimento da tecnologia humana, começando com cerca de 10,200 aC, de acordo com a cronologia ASPRO, em algumas partes do Oriente Médio e, posteriormente, em outras partes do mundo e terminando entre 4.500 e 2.000 aC. Considerado tradicionalmente a última parte da Idade da Pedra, o Neolítico seguiu o período epipaleolítico terminal do Holoceno e começou com o início da agricultura, que produziu a "Revolução Neolítica". Terminou quando as ferramentas metálicas se tornaram generalizadas. O neolítico é uma progressão de características e mudanças comportamentais e culturais, incluindo o uso de culturas selvagens e domésticas e de animais domesticados. O início da cultura neolítica é considerado no Levant cerca de 10.200-8.800 aC. Desenvolveu-se diretamente a partir da cultura Natufiana Epipaleolítica na região, cujas pessoas foram pioneiras no uso de cereais selvagens, que então evoluíram para uma verdadeira agricultura. O período Natufiano foi entre 12.000 e 10.200 aC, e o chamado "proto-neolítico" está agora incluído no Neolítico pré-cerâmica entre 10.200 e 8.800 aC.
