Um teste objetivo é um teste psicológico que mede as características de um indivíduo independentemente do viés do avaliador ou das próprias crenças do examinador, geralmente pela administração de um banco de questões marcado e comparado contra mecanismos de pontuação rigorosos completamente padronizados, da mesma forma que os exames são administrados. Os testes objetivos geralmente são contrastados com os testes projetivos, que são sensíveis às crenças do avaliador ou do examinador. Os testes projetivos são baseados na Psicologia Freudiana e procuram expor as percepções inconscientes das pessoas. Os testes objetivos tendem a ter mais validade do que os testes projetivos; no entanto, eles ainda estão sujeitos à vontade do examinado de ser aberto sobre sua personalidade e, como tal, às vezes pode ser muito representativo da verdadeira personalidade do assunto. Os testes projetivos supostamente expõem certos aspectos da personalidade de indivíduos que são impossíveis de medir por meio de um teste objetivo e são muito mais confiáveis ao descobrir traços ou características de personalidade "protegidas" ou inconscientes.
