Fosforescência
A fosforescência é um tipo específico de fotoluminescência relacionada à fluorescência. Ao contrário da fluorescência, um material fosforescente não re-emite imediatamente a radiação que absorve. As escalas de tempo mais lentas da re-emissão estão associadas a transições de estado de energia "proibidas" na mecânica quântica. À medida que essas transições ocorrem muito lentamente em certos materiais, a radiação absorvida pode ser re-emitida com menor intensidade por até várias horas após a excitação original.
