Processo planar
O processo planar é um processo de fabricação usado na indústria de semicondutores para construir componentes individuais de um transistor e, por sua vez, conecte esses transistores juntos. É o processo primário pelo qual os modernos circuitos integrados são construídos. O processo foi desenvolvido por Jean Hoerni, um dos "oito traidores", enquanto trabalhava na Fairchild Semiconductor. O conceito-chave era ver um circuito em sua projeção bidimensional, permitindo assim o uso de conceitos de processamento fotográfico, como negativos de filmes, para mascarar a projeção de produtos químicos expostos à luz. Isso permitiu o uso de uma série de exposições em um substrato para criar óxido de silício ou regiões dopadas. Juntamente com o uso da metalização e o conceito de isolamento de junção p-n, os pesquisadores da Fairchild conseguiram criar circuitos em uma única fatia de cristal de silício a partir de uma baga de silício monocristalino.
