A correção política é um termo que se refere a linguagem, idéias ou políticas forçadas que abordam discriminação percebida contra grupos políticos, sociais ou econômicos. Esses grupos incluem mais proeminentemente aqueles definidos por gênero, raça, religião, etnia, orientação sexual, idade e deficiência. Historicamente, o termo era um coloquialismo usado no início ao meio do século 20 pelos comunistas e socialistas em debates políticos, referindo-se de forma pejorativa à "linha do partido" comunista, que previa posições "corretas" em muitos assuntos da política. O termo foi adotado no final do século 20 pela Nova Esquerda, aplicado com certo humor para condenar a conduta sexista ou racista como "não politicamente correto". No início da década de 1990, o termo foi adotado pelos conservadores dos EUA como um termo pejorativo para todo tipo de tentativas de promover o multiculturalismo e a política de identidade, em particular, as tentativas de introduzir novos termos que buscam deixar a bagagem discriminatória ostensivamente ligada aos mais antigos e, inversamente , para tentar fazer os antigos tabu.

Political correctness is a term that refers to enforced language, ideas, or policies that address perceived discrimination against political, social or economical groups. These groups most prominently include those defined by gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and disability. Historically, the term was a colloquialism used in the early-to-mid 20th century by Communists and Socialists in political debates, referring pejoratively to the Communist "party line", which provided for "correct" positions on many matters of politics. The term was adopted in the later 20th century by the New Left, applied with a certain humour to condemn sexist or racist conduct as "not politically correct". By the early 1990s, the term was adopted by US conservatives as a pejorative term for all manner of attempts to promote multiculturalism and identity politics, particularly, attempts to introduce new terms that sought to leave behind discriminatory baggage ostensibly attached to older ones, and conversely, to try to make older ones taboo.
