Probabilidade pré e pós-teste
A probabilidade de pré-teste e a probabilidade pós-teste são as probabilidades subjetivas da presença de uma condição antes e depois de um teste de diagnóstico, respectivamente. A probabilidade pós-teste, por sua vez, pode ser positiva ou negativa, dependendo se o teste cai como um teste positivo ou um teste negativo, respectivamente. Em alguns casos, é usado para a probabilidade de desenvolver a condição de interesse no futuro. A subjetividade das probabilidades baseia-se no fato de que, na realidade, um indivíduo tem a condição ou não, de modo que as probabilidades de pré e pós-teste para indivíduos podem ser consideradas como fenômenos psicológicos nas mentes daqueles envolvidos nos diagnósticos à mão. O teste, neste sentido, pode referir-se a qualquer exame médico, e em um sentido amplo também incluindo questões e até mesmo suposições. A capacidade de fazer a diferença entre probabilidades pré e pós-teste de várias condições é um fator importante na indicação de testes médicos.
