Nos sistemas jurídicos de direito comum, um precedente ou autoridade é um princípio ou uma regra estabelecida em um caso legal anterior que é vinculativo ou persuasivo para um tribunal ou outro tribunal ao decidir casos subseqüentes com problemas ou fatos similares.
