Os papagaios, também conhecidos como psittacines / sɪtəsaɪnz /, são pássaros das aproximadamente 372 espécies em 86 gêneros que compõem a ordem Psittaciformes, encontrados na maioria das regiões tropicais e subtropicais. A ordem é subdividida em três superfamílias: a Psittacoidea, a Cacatuoidea e a Strigopoidea. A maior diversidade de papagaios é na América do Sul e na Australásia. As características características dos papagaios incluem uma conta forte e curva, uma posição vertical, pernas fortes e pés zigodactilados com garras. Muitos papagaios são vividamente coloridos, e alguns são multicoloridos. A plumagem das cacatuas varia de na maior parte branca até a maioria negra, com uma crista móvel de penas na parte superior de suas cabeças. A maioria dos papagaios exibem pouco ou nenhum dimorfismo sexual. Eles formam a ordem do pássaro de tamanho mais variável em termos de comprimento. Os componentes mais importantes das dietas dos papagaios são sementes, nozes, frutas, brotos e outros materiais vegetais.
