Na eletrônica, um oscilador de relaxamento é um circuito eletrônico não-linear de oscilador que produz um sinal de saída repetido não senoidal, como uma onda triangular ou onda quadrada. [1] [2] [3] [4] O circuito consiste em um circuito de feedback contendo um dispositivo de comutação, como um transistor, um comparador, um relé, um amplificador operacional ou um dispositivo de resistência negativa como um diodo de túnel que carrega repetidamente um capacitor ou indutor através de uma resistência até atingir um nível de limiar, depois o descarta de novo. [4] [6] O período do oscilador depende da constante de tempo do capacitor ou circuito indutor. [2] O dispositivo ativo alterna abruptamente entre os modos de carga e descarga e, portanto, produz uma forma de onda repetitiva que muda de forma descontínua. [2] [4] Isso contrasta com o outro tipo de oscilador eletrônico, o oscilador harmônico ou linear, que usa um amplificador com feedback para excitar oscilações ressonantes em um ressonador, produzindo uma onda senoidal.
