Repercussão é o segundo álbum de The dB's. Como seu antecessor, Stands for Decibels, o álbum foi comercialmente infrutífero, mas desde então desenvolveu um seguimento de culto e agora é considerado como um clássico como Stands for Decibels por ambos os fãs de pop de poder e fãs de rock em geral. Os dB's começaram a gravar o álbum depois de uma breve turnê em maio de 1981. Chris Stamey e Peter Holsapple, os cantores / guitarristas da banda, tiveram material suficiente quase imediatamente para começar um novo álbum. Stamey e Holsapple cada um acabaram contribuindo com seis músicas no álbum. Como foi o caso no último álbum, as músicas de Stamey viraram para melodias e ritmos mais experimentais, enquanto as músicas de Holsapple eram mais tradicionais em uma veia pop. O álbum foi, como seu antecessor, muito modestamente produzido, mas houve alguma evidência de crescimento no som gravado dos dBs. A primeira faixa, "Living a Lie" de Holsapple, apresentou uma seção de chifres e soou não muito diferente de um histórico antigo. O álbum foi produzido por Scott Litt, que deu ao álbum um som um pouco mais profundo, utilizando coisas como reverb na bateria que não estavam presentes em sua estréia.
