Retinoscopia
A retinoscopia é uma técnica para obter uma medida objetiva do erro refractivo dos olhos de um paciente. O examinador usa um retinoscópio para iluminar a luz no olho do paciente e observa a reflexão fora da retina do paciente. Ao mover a raia ou mancha de luz através da pupila, o examinador observa o movimento relativo do reflexo, então usa um phoropter ou coloca as lentes manualmente sobre o olho para "neutralizar" o reflexo. A retinoscopia estática é um tipo de retinoscopia usada na determinação do erro de refração do paciente. Baseia-se no princípio de Foucault, que afirma que o examinador deve simular o infinito óptico para obter o poder de refração correto. Assim, uma potência correspondente à distância de trabalho é subtraída do valor bruto de retinoscopia para dar a condição de refração do paciente, sendo a lente de distância de trabalho uma que tem uma distância focal da distância do examinador do paciente. Os Myopes exibem um reflexo "contra", o que significa que a direção do movimento da luz observada a partir da retina é uma direção diferente daquela em que o feixe de luz é varrido.
