Retificador
Um retificador é um dispositivo elétrico que converte corrente alternada, que inverte periodicamente a direção, a corrente contínua, que flui em apenas uma direção. O processo é conhecido como retificação. Fisicamente, os retificadores assumem uma série de formas, incluindo diodos de tubo de vácuo, válvulas de arco de mercúrio, retificadores de cobre e óxido de selênio, diodos semicondutores, retificadores controlados por silício e outros interruptores semicondutores à base de silício. Os retificadores têm muitos usos, mas muitas vezes são encontrados como componentes de fontes de alimentação de corrente contínua e sistemas de transmissão de energia de corrente contínua de alta tensão. A rectificação pode servir em funções além de gerar corrente contínua para uso como fonte de energia. Como observado, os detectores de sinais de rádio servem como retificadores. Nos sistemas de aquecimento a gás, a rectificação de chamas é usada para detectar presença de chama.
