Licença de casamento
Uma licença de casamento é um documento emitido, seja por uma igreja ou autoridade estatal, autorizando um casal a se casar. O procedimento para obter uma licença varia entre os países e mudou ao longo do tempo. As licenças de casamento começaram a ser emitidas na Idade Média, para permitir um casamento que de outro modo seria ilegal. Hoje, eles são um requisito legal em algumas jurisdições e também podem ser o registro do próprio casamento, se assinado pelo casal e testemunhado. Em outras jurisdições, não é necessária uma licença. Em algumas jurisdições, um "perdão" pode ser obtido para se casar sem licença e, em algumas jurisdições, casamentos de direito cívico e casamento por convivência e representação também são reconhecidos. Estes não requerem uma licença de casamento. Há também algumas jurisdições onde as licenças de casamento não existem e um certificado de casamento é dado ao casal após a cerimônia de casamento ter ocorrido. O artigo 16 da Declaração Universal dos Direitos Humanos declara que "Homens e mulheres maiores de idade, sem qualquer limitação por raça, nacionalidade ou religião, têm o direito de se casar e fundar uma família.
