Supergene
Um supergene é um grupo de genes vizinhos em um cromossomo que são herdados em conjunto devido à estreita ligação genética e estão funcionalmente relacionados em um sentido evolutivo, embora raramente sejam co-regulados geneticamente. Supergenes tem cis-efeitos devido a vários loci, e estreita ligação. Eles são classicamente polimórficos e diferentes elementos codificam para diferentes efeitos de fitness que se combinam para formar um conjunto coerente ou epistatico. Os dois supergenes clássicos são o locus Primula heterostyly, que controla os tipos de "pin" e "thrum", e o locus que controla o polimorfismo mimético batesiano nas borboletas Papilio memnon. Por exemplo, os morphs de Primula e pin e de Threat têm efeitos sobre a compatibilidade genética, e possuem diferentes tamanhos de estilo, altura da antera no tubo da corola, tamanho do pólen e tamanho da papila no estigma. Cada um desses efeitos é controlado por um locus diferente no mesmo supergênio, mas os recombinantes são ocasionalmente encontrados com traços combinando aqueles de morphs "pin" e "thrum". Os complexos de genes, em contraste, são simplesmente grupos de genes estreitamente ligados, geralmente criados por duplicação de genes.
