Theremin
O theremin / θɛrəmɪn /, THERR-ə-min; originalmente conhecido como ætherphone / etherphone, thereminophone ou termenvox / thereminvox é um instrumento musical eletrônico precoce controlado sem contato físico pelo thereminist. É nomeado em homenagem ao nome ocidentalizado de seu inventor russo, Léon Theremin, que patenteou o dispositivo em 1928. A seção de controle do instrumento geralmente consiste em duas antenas metálicas que detectam a posição relativa das mãos do terminista e osciladores de controle para a freqüência de uma mão, e amplitude com o outro. Os sinais elétricos do termemin são amplificados e enviados para um alto-falante. O theremin foi usado em trilhas sonoras de filmes, como Miklós Rózsa's para Spellbound e The Lost Weekend e Bernard Herrmann para The Day the Earth Stood Still e como o tema para o drama ITV Midsomer Murders. Isso levou à sua associação com um som muito estranho. Theremins também são usados em música de concertos e em gêneros musicais populares, como rock.
