O QUE SIGNIFICA TRANSPOSABLE EM INGLÊS
Elemento transponível
Um elemento transponível é uma seqüência de DNA que pode mudar sua posição dentro do genoma, às vezes criando ou revendo mutações e alterando o tamanho do genoma da célula. A transposição muitas vezes resulta em duplicação do TE. A descoberta de Barbara McClintock desses genes de salto ganhou-lhe um prêmio Nobel em 1983. Em Oxytricha, que tem um sistema genético único, eles desempenham um papel crítico no desenvolvimento.
