Trotskismo
O trotskismo é a teoria do marxismo defendida por Leon Trotsky. Trotsky identificou como um marxista ortodoxo e bolchevique-leninista, e apoiou a fundação de um partido de vanguarda da classe trabalhadora. Sua política diferiu fortemente daqueles do estalinismo, quando ele se opôs à idéia de socialismo em um país. Trotsky ainda apoiava o internacionalismo proletário e uma ditadura do proletariado baseada na auto-emancipação da classe trabalhadora e na democracia em massa. Ele não acreditou na burocracia inexplicável desenvolvida sob Stalin após a morte de Lênin. Vladimir Lênin e Trotsky foram íntimos tanto ideologicamente como pessoalmente durante a Revolução Russa e suas conseqüências, e alguns chamam Trotsky de seu "co-líder". No entanto, Lenin criticou as idéias de Trotsky e os hábitos políticos intrapartidários. Trotsky foi o líder primordial do exército vermelho soviético logo após o período revolucionário.
