Bias de um estimador
Nas estatísticas, o viés de um estimador é a diferença entre o valor esperado deste estimador e o valor verdadeiro do parâmetro sendo estimado. Um estimador ou uma regra de decisão com preconceito zero é chamado de imparcial. Caso contrário, o estimador é dito ser tendencioso. Em estatísticas, o "viés" é uma afirmação objetiva sobre uma função e, enquanto não é uma propriedade desejada, não é pejorativa, ao contrário do uso comum do termo "polarização". O viés também pode ser medido em relação à mediana, em vez da média, caso em que se distingue a indenização mediana da propriedade média de indesejabilidade média. O viés está relacionado à consistência em que os estimadores consistentes são convergentes e assintóticamente imparciais, embora os estimadores individuais em uma sequência consistente possam ser tendenciosos; Veja o viés versus consistência. Tudo o mais igual, um estimador imparcial é preferível a um estimador tendencioso, mas na prática tudo o mais não é igual, e os estimadores tendenciosos são freqüentemente usados, geralmente com pequena polarização.
