O QUE SIGNIFICA VERIFIABILITY EM INGLÊS

No contexto de sistemas de hardware e software, a verificação formal é o ato de provar ou refutar a correção dos algoritmos pretendidos subjacentes a um sistema em relação a uma determinada especificação ou propriedade formal, usando métodos formais de matemática. A verificação formal pode ser útil para provar a correção de sistemas como: protocolos criptográficos, circuitos combinacionais, circuitos digitais com memória interna e software expresso como código fonte. A verificação desses sistemas é feita fornecendo uma prova formal sobre um modelo matemático abstrato do sistema, sendo a correspondência entre o modelo matemático e a natureza do sistema conhecida pela construção. Exemplos de objetos matemáticos usados com freqüência para modelar sistemas são: máquinas de estados finitos, sistemas de transição rotulados, redes de Petri, autômatos cronometrados, autômatos híbridos, álgebra de processos, semântica formal de linguagens de programação, como semântica operacional, semântica denotacional, semântica axiomática e lógica Hoare.
