A guerra dos nove anos - muitas vezes chamada de Guerra da Grande Aliança ou Guerra da Liga de Augsburgo - foi uma grande guerra do final do século 17 lutada entre o rei Luís XIV da França e uma coalizão européia, a Grande Aliança , liderado pelo Stadtholder anglo-holandês-rei William III, o imperador romano Holy Leopold I, o rei Carlos II da Espanha, o vencedor Amadeus II da Sabóia e os principais e menores príncipes do Sacro Império Romano. A guerra dos nove anos foi travada principalmente na Europa continental e nas suas águas circundantes, mas também abrangeu um teatro na Irlanda e na Escócia, onde William III e James II lutaram pelo controle das ilhas britânicas e uma campanha entre colonos franceses e ingleses e seus respectivos aliados indianos na América do Norte colonial.
