Organização Mundial da Saúde
A Organização Mundial da Saúde é uma agência especializada das Nações Unidas que se preocupa com a saúde pública internacional. Foi criada em 7 de abril de 1948, com sede em Genebra, na Suíça. A OMS é membro do Grupo de Desenvolvimento das Nações Unidas. Sua antecessora, a Organização da Saúde, era uma agência da Liga das Nações. A principal responsabilidade era ajudar alguém que precisasse de assistência médica. A constituição da Organização Mundial da Saúde foi assinada por todos os 69 países das Nações Unidas até 22 de julho de 1946, com o primeiro encontro da Assembléia Mundial da Saúde que terminou em 24 de julho de 1948. Incorporou o Escritório Internacional de Hygiène Publique e a Liga Organização das Nações Unidas para a Saúde. Desde a sua criação, desempenhou um papel de liderança na erradicação da varíola.
