O salmonete de olhos amarelos é um salmão da família Mugilidae, a única espécie do gênero Aldrichetta. Encontra-se em torno da Nova Zelândia, das Ilhas Chatham e do sul da Austrália. Na Nova Zelândia também é conhecido como espadilha ou arenque, mas não é uma verdadeira espadilha nem um verdadeiro arenque. Eles também são comumente chamados de salmonete de areia. A parte traseira é verde-oliva, e a barriga é de prata, geralmente com um tom amarelo. Os olhos são um amarelo brilhante distintivo, como o nome comum sugere, que facilmente o distingue de outros peixes costeiros. Eles costumam crescer até 25 centímetros. O maior tamanho registrado é 50 centímetros de comprimento e 950 gramas de peso.
