Alderfly
Alderflies sunt insecte megaloptere din familia Sialidae. Acestea sunt strâns legate de dobânzii și peștele, precum și de Euchauliodidae preistorice. Toți alderflii vii - aproximativ 66 de specii - fac parte din subfamilia Sialinae, care conține între unu și șapte genuri existente în funcție de opiniile diferitor oameni de știință. Dar în majoritatea clasificărilor, toate sau aproape toate acestea sunt tratate ca subgenera lui Sialis. Sialinae au o lungime a corpului mai mică de 25 mm, antene lungi filamentoase și patru aripi mari întunecate, din care perechea anterioară este puțin mai lungă decât cea posterioară. Nu au ocelli, iar al patrulea segment tarsal este dilatat și profund bilobat. Lalelele alderfly moarte sunt folosite ca momeală în pescuit. Femelele au un număr mare de ouă pe iarbă care se află lângă apă. Larvele sunt acvatice, active, înarmate cu mandibule puternice ascuțite și respiră prin intermediul a șapte perechi de filamente abdominale ramificate. Atunci când sunt de dimensiuni medii, care durează între un an și doi ani, ei părăsesc apa și petrec o treaptă în stare săracă pe teren înainte de metamorfoză în insectele mature sexual.
