Testul lui Ames
Testul Ames este o metodă pe scară largă utilizată care utilizează bacterii pentru a testa dacă o anumită substanță chimică poate provoca cancer. Mai formal, este un test biologic pentru a evalua potențialul mutagen al compușilor chimici. Un test pozitiv indică faptul că substanța chimică este mutagenoasă și, prin urmare, poate acționa ca un agent cancerigen, deoarece cancerul este adesea legat de mutație. Testul servește ca un test rapid și convenabil pentru a estima potențialul carcinogen al unui compus, deoarece testele standard de carcinogen pe șoareci și șobolani consumă mult timp și sunt costisitoare.
