Software de aplicație
Software-ul aplicației este un set de unul sau mai multe programe concepute pentru a efectua operațiuni pentru o anumită aplicație. Software-ul aplicației nu poate funcționa pe sine însă este dependent de software-ul sistemului de executare. De exemplu: MS Word, MS Excel, software Tally, sistemul de management al bibliotecii, sistemul de facturare etc. Termenul este folosit pentru a contrastala un astfel de software cu un alt tip de program informatic denumit software de sistem, care gestionează și integrează capabilitățile unui computer, dar nu să nu efectueze în mod direct sarcini care să fie în beneficiul utilizatorului. Software-ul de sistem deservește aplicația, care servește, la rândul său, utilizatorului. Exemplele includ software-ul contabil, software-ul întreprinderii, software-ul grafic, playerele media și suitele de birouri. Multe programe de aplicații se ocupă în principal de documente. Aplicațiile pot fi livrate împreună cu computerul și software-ul său de sistem sau publicate separat și pot fi codificate ca proiecte universitare. Software-ul aplicației aplică puterea unei anumite platforme de calcul sau a unui software de sistem într-un anumit scop.
