Aversiunea este o formă de tratament psihologic în care pacientul este expus la un stimul, fiind în același timp supus unei anumite forme de disconfort. Această condiționare este destinată să determine pacientul să asocieze stimulul cu senzații neplăcute pentru a opri comportamentul specific. Modelele de aversiune pot lua mai multe forme, de exemplu: punerea substanțelor cu gust neplăcut pe unghiile pentru a descuraja mestecarea unghiilor; asociind utilizarea unui emetic cu experiența consumului de alcool; sau comportament de asociere cu șocuri electrice de diferite intensități.
