Mare Lacul Bitter
Lacul Mare Bitter este un lac de apă sărată care face parte din Canalul Suez. Este conectat la Lacul Mic Bitter, prin care rulează și canalul. Înainte ca canalul să fie construit, situl lor era ocupat de văile de sare uscate. Împreună, Lacurile Bitter au o suprafață de aproximativ 250 km². Canalul trece de asemenea prin Lacul Manzala și Lacul Timsah, la nord de Lacurile Bitter. Deoarece canalul nu are încuietori, apa maritimă curge liber în lac din Marea Mediterană și Marea Roșie. În general, la nord de lacuri, curentul se inversează sezonier, fiind nordic în timpul iernii și în sud pe timpul verii. La sud de lacuri, curentul este mare, inversând cu mareele din Marea Roșie. Peștii pot migra, în general, într-o direcție nordică, prin canal și lacuri în ceea ce se numește migrație lessepsiană. Prin aceasta, unele specii de Marea Roșie au ajuns să colonizeze estul Mediteranei. În ultima parte a celui de-al doilea război mondial, lacul a fost folosit pentru navele interne de război italiene care s-au predat aliaților, inclusiv navelor de luptă Vittorio Veneto și Italia.
