Karakul (oaie)
Karakul sau Qaraqul este o rasă de ovine domestice originare din Asia Centrală. Unele dovezi arheologice arată că oile Karakul au fost crescute în mod continuu încă din 1400 î.Hr. Salutând din regiunile deșertice din Asia Centrală, oile Karakul sunt renumite pentru capacitatea lor de a fura și prospera în condiții de viață extrem de dure. Ele pot supraviețui condițiilor severe de secetă din cauza unei calități deosebite pe care o au, stocând grăsime în cozile lor. Karakul este, de asemenea, crescut în număr mare în Namibia, fiind prima dată adus acolo de coloniștii germani la începutul secolului al XX-lea.
